Samuelito
Plays: Flamenca Negra, La Resonante
Samuelito, whose real name is Samuel Rouesnel, is a French guitarist born in 1993 in Caen. He began studying classical guitar at the age of 7 at the Caen Conservatory, quickly developing a passion for flamenco and pursuing a dual training in both classical and flamenco guitar.
This distinctive approach brought him into contact with musicians such as Juan Carmona, Roland Dyens, Ibrahim Maalouf and Larry Coryell. Named "Revelation of the Year 2013" by Guitarist Acoustic magazine, he also won the First Prize for Flamenco Guitar at the International Competition of Albi that same year. He went on to earn a State Diploma in classical guitar (2016), a degree in musicology from the Sorbonne (2015), and the National Higher Diploma in Music from the Pôle Supérieur de Paris.
Firmly rooted in the flamenco tradition, he regularly accompanies cante and baile, and has performed across France, Spain, Germany, Croatia and the United States. His duo with Antoine Boyer (manouche jazz guitar) won the 4th European Guitar Award in 2016 and produced the albums Coïncidence (2016) and Sonámbulo (2020).
In 2023, he went through a period of inner exploration — shaped by the discovery of traditional yoga and travels to India — during which he briefly adopted the name Sangitananda and founded Thalica, an organisation dedicated to music, philosophy and yoga. Now returned to his stage name Samuelito, he continues his journey as a flamenco artist, enriched by these experiences.
